With 130 people in the audience, HC Kriens was unfortunately not living up to our potential in the village of Willisau. We started highly motivated with tough defense, even though we had some troubles getting hold of their wings and pivot. In the offense we had some issues figuring out how to keep our normal plays with a angled 5-1 towards our left back. We had a few successful counterattacks, and kept up a fast pace. With 24 minutes played we were up by 2 goals. Although, after a few technical mistakes, going into half time the score was one goal up for STV Willisau: 13:12.
During the halftime in the locker room the focus was on defense, as defense is the best offense. We agreed on focusing all forces to stop the breakthroughs in the middle, and the passes to the pivot. Yet, we didn’t fully manage to do our job. Willisau started strong and kept playing the same moves and playing in to the pivot with a fast pace and managed to increase their lead even more. We did not manage to play our usual plays in the second half, nor did they fast breaks go our way. With 2 minutes to go of the game and a result of 28-20, HCK took a time out. Immediately afterwards we got two 2-minute penalty in a row and the game was punctured. The final result was 30:21 to Willisau and their first victory.
After yet another loss it starts to feel like a dance, and hopefully the next step on Saturday the 24th of November will be forwards – ending with a Victory!
